Drunk on Comics Podcast 220: Cat Facts

Linz and Derek are coming at you from Studio B again this week, half because Tony was out of town and half because Studio had a little…..”accident”. They started out the podcast talking about National Beer Lovers Day and National Free Porn Day, but that conversation quickly deteriorated in to a discussion about the weird drinking games boys play and projectile vomiting.

Trying to recover from their lengthy off topic banter, Linz steered the conversation back to comics with her review of Angel Catbird from Margaret Atwood. That’s right, THE Margaret Atwood, esteemed author and poet who has given us such classics as The Handmaid’s Tale and Cat’s Eye. This book is a kooky, Golden-Age style book about a man who is transformed in to a human/cat/bird hybrid. This leads to the discovery of an entire secret world of animal/human hybrids, someone of them born as shape shifters, some of them coming to it by scientific means (like the protagonist of this book). The book clearly illustrates Margaret’s love for cats, as she also included many facts and advice about taking care of cats and how to prevent the decline of the pet cat population as well as the wild bird population. If you have ever read anything from Margaret Atwood, her interest in science and speculative futures is evident in this book. Her art team did a great job helping her bring her idea to life. Yes, this book is a little silly, but definitely worth the read.

Moving on from the review, Linz and Derek get in to some news and discussions. They covered the new Vodka that supposedly protects your liver from alcohol damage (remember, even if it doesn’t fully damage your liver, it does not protect you against the poor decisions that come with drinking too much alcohol). Other topic covered were the casting of Deathstroke for the Batman standalone movie, Warner Brothers reporting their own site as illegal, and the new Super Mario Run game. They also got in to a discussion about why good comics get canceled.

Booze and a book this week was Glitterbomb #1 paired with a Vodka Cranberry.
