Drunk on Comics Podcast 242: A Drunken Course on Social Discourse

It was a Linz and Josh team-up this week, since Tony was recovering from his vacation to Florida. The dynamic duo definitely had some fun taking over this week, they even added a different intro song! This is what happens when you let the patients run the asylum, pure chaos.

Linz covered The Misfists #2 the week and really got in to the heart of the comic, which was Stormer dealing with how people judge her based on her weight. This is a passionate subject for Linz, being among the “not skinny” and also having been a much bigger girl in the past. It turned in to a great discussion about how Jem and the Holograms and now The Misfits are really tackling issues that so many girls (and really, people in general) deal with.

Noteworthy news covered was the upcoming Runaways series on Hulu, the next DC/Hanna-Barbera comic, and Images 25th anniversary.

A good portion of the podcast was spent discussing comics being used as tools for political and social discourse and how important they are as an art form. They got in to some of the bigger moments in comic book history in which comics were really used to put a magnifying glass to an issue and how artists and writers have really used to tools at their disposal to express themselves. Josh briefly talked about the graphic novel series March. All in all, we hope that you walk away from this podcast thinking about how important the art form that we all love is to society. We also hope it made sense, because drinking makes everything sound awesome at the time.

Booze and a Book this week was Green Lantern/Planet of the Apes #1 paired with a Kiwi Caipiroksa.
