Drunk on Comics Podcast 245: Sexy Skeksis Sexting Selfies

Linz, Josh, and Tony gather together again this week to talk about comics and nerdy news, but not before a briefing on Tony’s weekend (we really need to come up with a name for this part of the show…Tony Time? We’ll work on it). Tony attended the Winter Beer Fest, which is an annual festival in the Grand Rapids area. Fun times for sure, and Tony finally learned how to record outside! Beer and learning! Grand Rapids is the best.

Moving on in to some actual podcast related topics, Linz reviewed The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed #1, written by Mike Mignola and drawn by Paul Grist. This book expands on the Hellboy universe, which Mignola has worked hard at fully developing throughout the years. Linz, not being a frequent reader of the Hellboy books, was intriqued by the story and definitely has decided to go back and read up what she has been missing out of. The Visitor is a character that has popped up here and there in the Hellboy stories, mainly as a background character. Turns out (*spoilers*), he is an alien sent to kill Hellboy, but he decides not to, as Hellboy is a child at the time and the Visitor wants to give him a chance to prove himself a good person. The book shortly covers some of the back stories of Hellboy, but from an outside perspective. Definitely pick this up if you are a fan of Hellboy, the Mignola-verse, or just really good comics.

After the review, the crew moved on to other topics. Sadly, the actor Bill Paxton had just passed so they talked about his career and whether Bill Pullman gets his power – Highlander style. They also covered the upcoming Thor reveal, a Hulk/Wolverine hybrid, the X-Force movie, and a genius casting for the upcoming Inhumans television show.

Booze and a Book this week was The Power of the Dark Crystal #1 paired with Habenero Buckrider from North Piers Brewing Company.
