Drunk on Comics Podcast 246: Connor’s Black Bolt Impression

Tony, Linz, and Josh were joined by a special guest this week, Linz’s son Connor. Don’t worry, the conversation remained the same even with the presence of a 14 year old, although there was significantly less Drunk in this episode of Drunk on Comics. As with all 14 year olds, Connor was either going to talk our ears off or act like he was not even there. You can probably figure out what played out just by the title of this episode.

Linz started the episode off with a review of Extremity #1 from Image and Skybound. This book starts with an attack that ends in a little girl losing her hand and her mother. Flashforward to when the people who were attacked are taking their revenge. This book is violent and bloody, but does a great job of focusing on the nuances of the characters, especially Thea, the girl who lost her hand. This story is about loss, fear, revenge, and survival and does a great job setting these feelings up in the first issue. The art does a great at being graphic without being overly so, which makes it able to show the horrors of war with out nauseating the reader. Definitely one to pick up.

Tony reviewed Bullseye #2 this week (Tony read a comic you guys!). This a mini series, which will consist of 5 issues. Tony went in to exactly how bad-ass of a villain Bullseye is and how much chaos he can cause. The character definitely plays by his own rules and even though he gets paid to do work for people, he will not be micro-managed. We sometimes forget how great the villains of stories can be, and while we don’t think Marvel will ever commit a full series to any one villain, it is nice to see things from their side of the camera every once in while.

The gang talked in length about the Inhumans casting and how the TV series might play in to the bigger overall picture. They also chatted about the Logan movie, and the X-men movie working title.

Booze and a Book this week was Savage Things #1 paired with Straight Jacket, a barley wine ale from Revolution Brewing.
