After the awesome Free Comic Book Day premiere issue, what could Futures End #1 have in store? Plenty, that’s what!

After getting a little sample of what to expect on Saturday, I was so glad that we didn’t have to wait long for the next issue. The writers do an excellent job of putting the spotlight on different characters, starting with Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond), who is now a time-displaced hero trying to complete his mentor’s final task, to the ultimate fate of Stormwatch (they bleed out in the Bleed, sorry, couldn’t help myself), Grifter and his ongoing battle against the Daemonites, and eventually to Firestorm and the results of Ronnie’s selfish behavior… the death of Oliver Queen!

Although we follow several characters in this 22 page adventure, none of them feel slighted for air-time, and the blend the exposition and action quite well, not letting the reader get too comfortable in any one situation before changing the pace or the spotlight. So far, DC has picked some great writers to helm their weeklies, and both have been top notch!

With the zero issue, we also got a sample of the artists and what we can expect from this series, and it kicks off with the incomparable Patrick Zircher! His work on this issue is second-to-none, and gorgeous as ever! His Batman Beyond is amazing (I want him on a Batman Beyond ongoing, can we make that happen?)! I’m just so impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. In one issue, he draws a dark protector battling an evil cyborg, Earth’s protectors obliterated in a self-destructing spaceship, a masked vigilante killing demons in the suburbs, and a nuclear powered hero trying to save a burning city only to find out they were too late to save Green Arrow. Zircher has range, and I think he deserves praise for his amazing talents!

Well, if that didn’t change your mind and make you want to go out and pick this book up, I don’t know what will. Written by some of the best writers at DC, pencilled by the extremely gifted Patrick Zircher, and awesome super-hero action, Futures End #1 is an absolute MUST BUY in my book!
