Review by Scott Keys

You read my glowing review of issue one, right? You say to yourself, “self, there’s NO way that issue 2 can live up to issue 1, right?” To that I say, “WRONG!” With as much love as I have for the original Quantum and Woody, this new, updated version has surpassed that! I know what you’re gonna say, “But this is only the second issue, how can you say that?” But that’s my point, we’re only 2 issues in, and I absolutely LOVE it!

Asmus has already captured the tone and “feel” of these characters, yet updated them for today’s audience. The first page of this issue is hilarious and sets the tone for the hijinks that ensue, with Woody seemingly breaking the 4th-wall, a la Deadpool, only to see that he’s actually recording a video while Eric searching for evidence to clear their names. Well played Mr. Asmus! But it doesn’t stop there, oh, we’re just getting started. I don’t want to ruin some of the funniest moments, but suffice it to say, Woody is definitely the lead and gets all of the best lines against Eric’s straight man. Exceptional once again, Mr. Asmus.

Not much needs to be said about Fowler’s art that I didn’t drool over last issue, but he ups the ante once again. I’ll just give you the highlights, and you can judge for yourself when you read the issue: naked fight between Eric and Woody (not as gross as you think, but ends with a very awkward panel) and the looks on their faces is perfect! Speaking of perfect, I don’t think that anyone else would be as perfect on this book other than Mr. Fowler! I’ve not seen someone handle the comedy and the action, while actually telling a story with pictures, in a long time. Kudos to you, Mr. Fowler

If this is what we have to look forward to from future issues of Quantum and Woody, then we are staring at the sure-fire hit of 2013! Never in all my years did I think someone could replicate the awesomeness that was Quantum and Woody, but James Asmus and Tom Fowler have taken the original concept, updated it, and given us more LPP (that’s laughs per page) than I ever could have dreamed. Another perfect issue, gentlemen!

Quantum and Woody #2 is available now from Valiant Entertainment at your local comic shop and digitally.
