Drunk on Comics Podcast 317: Interviews from Motor City Comic Con 2018

It was once again, another amazing show at Motor City Comic Con this year.   From all the people dressed up as their favorite characters, to the merchandise and of course the comic book creators, there is something for everyone at this convention.   Like all shows that D.O.C. goes to, interviews were to be had.   Tony was able to round up a variety of people in the industry to hear about what they are working on and what got them into the business.

Starting off, the man who needs no introduction, Dirk Manning graciously stop from his busy booth to chat a bit about what has been up with him.  It has been a while since he has done some interviews, and of course, there is much more later this summer to find out what he has next on his docket.   If you want to get to know Dirk more, check out his Facebook group, The F(r)iends of Dirk Manning Support Group.

Next up is A.Shay Hahn, coming in from Canada.  He has many books that are both beautifully illustrated and written.   Some of his works go from history of the fur trade, to wrestling as well as the homeless.   While this was his first time at Motor City Comic Con, he was able to see what all the fuss was about that Jason Clark told him of this wonderful convention.  You can check out his works at his Facebook page, A. Shay Hahn The Homeless G-Men.

Then we have Ben Goldsmith, who is always a pleasure to talk to.  While he’s hustling at the Source Point Press booth, he is also always in the mood to sing in the most outlandish fashion.  In fact, search for his band, Sexlump, you will not be disappointed.  You can find his book, The Seance Room at the Source Point Press site.

While walking down Artist Alley, Tony stopped by Jeremiah Lambert‘s booth because he saw a picture that he recently seen going around the interwebs.  Little did he know that this was posted over 5 years ago, and is still going strong as an iconic realistic depiction of Mario.   While chatting with Jeremiah, Tony learned a lot of the inspiration this talented artist had growing up as well as their mutual love of Fantastic Four.  You can find Jeremiah’s art at his website JeremiahLambertArt.com

To finish off the show, Tony briefly got to chat with Don Gibb, best known as Ogre from  Revenge of the Nerds movies.   He is much like his onscreen persona in real life as he is playing the character.   He is really down to earth and there was much discussed that off the record, which made Tony want to sit down with him and have a beer or four.

Lastly, Drunk on Comics wants to thank Motor City Comic Con for all the support it has given to this group of fans turned podcasters over the years.   It is through these friendships that has made this Drunk on Comics the best podcast at having fun interactions with people in the comic book industry, as well as fans for the past 6 years.   We couldn’t have made it this far without your help.   Cheers!
