A Review by Tom Barnett

This issue of Daredevil is a non-stop action comic. The art team of Javier Rodriguez and Alvaro Lopez delivers outstanding action and panel layouts to keep the reader on the edge of their seats. Rodriguez penciled some of the most dynamic and cinematic panels you will see in any comic being published today. In particular there is a scene where DD is about to take out a bogus cop and the energy just jumps off the page. You can almost feel the hit. The colors on this book continue to be bold and vibrant.

The issue begins with Matt Murdock quickly trying to figure out why a supposed judge has shot his defendant. Matt has no time to do that before he’s defending himself against the bailiff. Matt quickly finds out the writer Mark Waid has thrown him into a nest of serpents as he realizes that some or all of the police in the building are Sons of the Serpent cult members out to kill his defendant and anyone that gets in the way. Now Matt, as Daredevil, must stop their plot and save any of the innocent bystanders in the building.

Waid did a superb job keeping the reader on their toes as he threw in twist after turn in the story. He added two characters to help aid DD in his battle, a cop and a paramedic that I’m hoping we see more of. After all these years as a writer, Waid has perfected his dialogue especially when it comes to Matt’s thoughts. At the end of the story we’re left with a surprise awaiting Matt back at the law office that he obviously knows but the reader gets to speculate for a month on. The only downfall of this issue, I felt, was the quick resolution. The resolution seemed a bit abrupt, but was still consistent with the fast pace of the book.

Overall this book was a fine example of what makes comics compelling and interesting to read month in and month out. Buy it!
