Drunk on Comics Podcast 230: Taint Nothin’ Stranger

Linz and Tony gather together for a second time this week (check out Episode 229 for our amazing interview with Dirk Manning), although this time they were minus one Derek. The brave duo, however, managed to soldier on without him.

Things started off Strange. Since both had seen the new Doctor Strange movie, there was a great discussion about what they liked and why they the think the MCU is kicking DCU ass. Don’t worry, this was mostly a spoiler-free discussion. They also discussed the leak of the GoT season 7 plot, the inductees in the Toy Hall of Fame, and the incorrect early assumption of the Spider-man: Homecoming movie. Linz got passionate talking about the X-men movies and Young Justice season 3 (or rather, how sharing comics with kids is awesome).

The comic book game was strong with this podcast. The pair covered 3, yes 3, books this episode. Tony went a little out character with his first book, Betty Boop #2. The review was filled with memories of his childhood, ties to a beloved movie, a discussion of the art style, and a serious case of “friend-zone”. Linz covered Violent Love #1 from Image, a visually interesting crime-noir love story. The dialogue and the art were on point in this book. Finally, the two wrapped up with a review of WWE: Then. Now. Forever. #1. While both were entertained by the book, and appreciated the art and writing, it seemed very clear that this book was written for those who are already fans of the WWE and not something to bring in new fans.

In perhaps one of our most obvious Booze and a Books, we paired Archer & Armstrong #9 from Valiant with Archer & Armstrong APA from Arcade Brewery.
