Drunk on Comics Podcast 173: A Brain Juxtaposed

Derek, Tony, and Matt were able to take some time off from Grand Rapids Comic Con and record in the studio this weekend. We originally were going to have a full house of pod-casters with Jay from An Elegant Weapon joining up with us again. But unfortunately not everything pans out, but we still have a great show with just the 3 of them. And although Tony wasn’t feeling the best, he was able to mostly use what little brain cells were left to make sure this episode got uploaded.

We get started with Matt reviewing the books he knows best, both Uncanny Avengers #1 and New Avengers #1. The teams both have some interesting dynamics as far as rosters are concerned, but Tony is excited to see Maker being involved with New Avengers. It’s also interesting having Deadpool be on a team as well as the financial backer. Both books are great, and they definitely are all different.

Derek reviewed Lumberjanes: Beyond Bay Leaf #1. He got brownie points from his wife to finally talk about one of the few books she picks up. And while they guys did talk about the book, they also explored bay leafs, as well as an idea for a new barber shop. Tony talked about the interesting story of The Twilight Children #1. The book explores some adult themes that are contrasting to the art style of the book.

Indie Turnpike was I Hate Fairyland #1. Great new book from the Talented Skottie Young.

Booze and a Book had the pairing of God is Dead #43 paired with an Oblivion, which is so strong and powerful of a drink, it will either make you feel like a God, or send you on your way to meet them.
