Ever since the announcement of the New Warriors’ return, I’ve been STOKED! This is one of my favorite franchises from the Marvel catalogue, and I’m glad they are dusting it off and giving it another go!

I was very pleased when I saw that Scarlet Spider (Kaine) was going to be part of the new team, and even more pleased when I saw that Christopher Yost was going to be continuing Kaine’s adventures in the webs. As far as first issues go, this was a solid start. Yost, To, and Curiel do a great job of establishing each member (even though they are very spread apart), and giving them each a common foe to combat. And the art is fantastic! Great design and layout, eye-popping color…great super-hero art! Loved how they started with the old stalwarts, Justice and Speedball. These two are original members of the Warriors, and the inclusion of the new Nova was a no brainer too. Add Kaine (who’s “brother” has ties to the team), and his “companion,” Hummingbird, and the team is really fleshing out. The last two members are the Atlantean, Faira Sar Namora, and Sun Girl. It’s a great mix of old and new characters, while still giving the reader the sense that they are familiar. For some fair warning: SPOILERS!!!

The big baddie sending all of these “robots” around the world reaking havok, is none other than the High Evolutionary! Great choice when you look at the make-up of the team: mutants, Atlantean, clone, demi-god, half-alien… evolution gone wild!

New Warriors #1 is a great 1st issue with plenty of action and adventure, a diverse cast, and excellent creative team! So much was packed into the first issue, that if felt double sized! Can’t wait for more great super-hero action next issue! War On!
