X-O Manowar #16 picks up right where #15 left off, and also gives us a look into the past. Valiant has once again proven that they can compete with the “Big 2,” in terms of art and storytelling.
Venditti continues his great work on X-O with another brilliant issue. This time, delving into the past history of Aric (X-O) and Gilad (Eternal Warrior). Last issue ended with their modern day confrontation, but this issue gives us a glimpse into their rocky relationship in the past. Gilad being the teacher and Aric the student, and Venditti does a great job of mirroring that “lesson” with what is occurring in present day “Dacia.” I love the depth of Venditti’s writing, and his “world-building” that he is doing here in the Valiant Universe. It’s great to see payoff from previous issues at the end of this one too!
The art was really good this issue as well. Garbett and Gaudiano give the book a very “clean” look with sleek lines and tight inks. Garbett also gets to show some range this issue, with the scenes from the past and present, as well as some pretty gripping action scenes! Another fine issue of X-O Manowar by Garbett and Gaudiano!
Though it’s hard to believe, with it’s recent past considered, this book gets better every issue. I’m not even gonna spoil that last page, because you really should be reading this book!
